Andy Avila, 73, passed away peacefully at his home in El Paso on November 22, 2011.  Andy was a great guy and excellent football player during his years at AHS.  

He was a U.S. Army Veteran, and a member of The Asbestos Workers Union Local 76 for 41 years.

Andy enjoyed activities with his grandchildren; he was an automobile enthusiast, enjoyed fishing and hunting, and he liked spending time at home with his beloved wife of 42 years, Antonia 'Chita' Avila.  Andy also enjoyed playing games with his dog Snowball.

Family and friends knew Andy as a hard-working man, a caring person who was always willing to help others, and a guy who enjoyed making people laugh.  Andy was also a devoted father to his children Andres E. Avila and daughters Irene Avila Guzman and Irma C. Avila. 

Survivors include his wife Chita and their three children, their grandchildren Kristen, Melodie, RudyJoe and Victor, Andy's brother Guillermo 'Eddy' Avila, sisters Gloria, Josefina, Michelle, Cristina, and Maria, and many nieces, nephews and other close relatives.

A celebration of his life was held on November 28th, and a Vigil Service at the Martin Funeral Home West. Funeral Mass wwas held on Tuesday, November 29th at St. Pius X Catholic Church.  Interment followed at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery, with military honors.
